Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes



olive oil for the pan

1/2 cup grated carrot

1 finely chopped yellow onion

pinch celery salt

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1/2 tsp salt

1 - 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey

1/2 cup ketchup

1 small can (398 mL) diced tomatoes

1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 Tbsp vinegar

1 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard

2 Tbsp brown sugar

pinch red pepper flakes

10 -12 pieces of okra, thinly sliced (optional)

1 bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)


1.  In a large saute pan soften the onion and garlic for a few minutes and add the carrot.  Add the pepper and/or okra if using.

2.  Add the ground turkey and seasonings.  Saute the meat until it is dry and crumbly.  

3.  Add the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, and brown sugar.  Stir and simmer 5 minutes.  Adjust seasonings if needed.

4.  Serve on good old hamburger buns with a nice side salad.
